One thing I love most about summer is the whimsy, creativity and fun the campers bring with them to Gwynn Valley. Whether it’s having a horse wedding or making up games with their cabin mates on a campout, I look forward to the fun stories and experiences campers share with me during their meals. A time to reflect on the mornings activities or evenings events, to commune with new friends over a delicious bowl of Pasta Bolognese, homemade garlic bread and farm grown broccoli. 

On the final evening of a camper’s session, our incredible Photography team presents a video filled with clips of our campers time at Gwynn Valley, highlighting the fun, joy and magic of their session. Seated on the floor of the Lodge, we watch admiringly as campers navigate the loom, feed cows with a big smile on their face or jump into the Lake as a cabin group. These clips are just a few of the simple joys children experience at Gwynn Valley Camp. The focus and determination while climbing or blacksmithing shows a skill progression, upon showing their hard work from the top of the Rockwall or posing with their handcrafted metal wand, an illuminating smile of pride.

Sometimes on a cold and wintery day, I enjoy watching the session video highlights which brings excitement for the upcoming summer, a reminder that camp is right around the corner! Camp feels a bit different during the winter months, a very unfamiliar scene to our many visitors in the summer. The days are shorter and the sun sets on the Farm rather than behind the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, where campers enjoy the show from the Gatehouse Green in summer months. I think ahead to all the magic, warmth and fun summer will bring! With only 129 days until Opening Day,(not like I’m counting down or anything), we are so excited to see new and familiar faces for our 90th summer at Gwynn Valley Camp!
