Staff Spark Summer Joy + Staff 2024 Video
One of the most important tasks for the Year Round Team is the hiring and training of our seasonal staff at Gwynn Valley. We are beyond grateful for the dedicated and adaptable people who spend summer growing inside while guiding children’s play outside. Camp will always have its cultural history, beloved traditions and mission of simplicity, appreciation for the natural world, non-competitive environment and acceptance. It’s our staff who bring so much enthusiasm, joy for children and creativity to our programs and campers each summer. So far this year, we’ve had more returning staff apply to camp than we’ve seen since 2019!
One great pillar of our seasonal staff are those former campers and staff who have lived the exciting experience of growth and wonder that is a summer at Gwynn Valley. It’s such a privilege to watch people return each summer from camper to staff and see them utilize growth and a newfound sense of leadership for our campers. Those who embody and model the simple joys of camp also make wonderful role models for our new staff who join each summer from across the country and even across the world!
Our new staff bring with them a fresh perspective. They see camp with new eyes and set out new goals for our community to aspire to. The enthusiasm our new international staff bring for our International Days helps make them some of the most memorable camp experiences for campers and staff alike! Whether they’ve come from just down the road or across the world, we love seeing our staff experience living and working in a wholesome, beautiful environment. The varied skill sets they bring to camp are what helps make us such a dynamic, supportive community.
There are such valuable skills summer staff can learn and build upon while working at camp. Collaboration, communication and resilience can be built through working with a co-counselor or in the Kitchen prepping to serve 400 hungry people. Individual skills such as work ethic, confidence and accountability can be developed through roles and responsibilities at camp. These skills can translate into academic endeavors or interpersonal skills in a professional setting.
As we continue to look ahead to summer, we still have a few exciting opportunities available! We are still looking to fill the roles of our Waterfront Director, Climbing Director, Lead Cooks, Kayaking Program Leader and Male Riverside Cabin Counselor.
We are so excited to start building our camp community in just a few short weeks! With many new and returning faces, this summer is sure to be one filled with both laughter and new learnings. And for those Alumni that won’t be able to join us in 2025, we hope the video above brings with it a smile and memories of warm, sunny days at Gwynn Valley Camp.
