Signals of Summer

 

When May arrives here at camp it always feels like a promise, one that summer is just around the corner. And this year, that promise is already 

coming to life all across camp. Everywhere you look, there are signs of new and exciting things. Our barns are busier than ever, the calves have arrived and are thriving, bringing a steady hum of life back to the farm. We have also welcomed some new horse friends into our herd and they are settling into camp life very well. Our last animal friend we are awaiting is our mama pig, she is set to arrive next week and we cannot wait to meet her! 

Even our gardens are getting a head start. Despite a stretch of unusually dry weather and heavy pollen, we’re already harvesting early vegetables. And now, with the return of much needed rain, we’re hopeful for even more growth in the weeks to come. A little wet ground goes a long way here, and we’re excited to see our crops continue to flourish, ready to be shared and enjoyed by campers and staff alike.

Beyond the barnyard, camp is bursting with life. Bright greens, ushered in by spring, have painted our well loved home, the creek is full of fish darting through the water, and the woods are buzzing with the sounds of critters and bugs falling into the rhythm of summer. And it’s not just nature that is awake and ready, the camp community has come alive!

Our first staff members arrived this week, bringing fresh energy and excitement with them. Together, we’ve already begun the ever so important job of preparing camp for the summer, opening up spaces to make them feel like home. There’s something special about this time of year, as each small task helps shape the experiences that campers will soon have. At camp spring changes into summer almost all at once . We can feel it in the air, in the soil, and in the rhythm of camp life picking back up again.

Summer is ready to be here and we hope you are ready too!
