June 12th A Session

Dear Parents and Friends,

It’s been another day full of fun, play, and laughter at camp. We woke up this morning to blue skies and sunshine with a little mist and to a hot breakfast of French toast, bacon, strawberries, and boiled eggs with cereal on the side as usual.  After breakfast, it was off to do cabin chores and on to another morning of activities. The sun stayed out until activities finished.and then the skies opened up right before lunch but let up this afternoon for activities. The storms in our area actually skirted around us so we got to continue with all of our afternoon fun. Three cabin groups hiked to Connestee Falls and enjoyed a swim. Although the water was chilly , “it was awesome” according to one of the girls from Possum Manor who sits at my table. Sign-ups included all of the favorites such as the Farm, horseback riding, kayaking, and a new fun one which is the “swing by choice”. It’s one of the elements on our new ropes course which the campers love. You are harnessed into a giant swing and can choose how high you want to fly through the air.

There are nine cabins that cooked dinner out tonight and are camping out at many of the camp out shelters on the property. They are enjoying a warm fire and s’mores as I write. It’s a beautiful evening to sleep out curled up in their sleeping bags.

Those of us who were in camp this evening enjoyed a delicious meal of fettuccine alfredo,  garlic bread, salad, peaches, and curried cabbage. Although I thought the cabbage was delicious, the campers preferred the peaches and garlic bread – imagine that. We closed our evening with mountain dancing in the lodge and then sat around the fire to listen to R.B. read us a couple of his Tajar Tales stories. It was a nice close to a good day.

Mountainside had a fun day of service this morning and sign up activities this afternoon. They enjoyed tye-dying, kumihimo, paper marbling, a hike to connestee, and some time to write letters and “chill”. They have all chosen their adventures and will begin packing tomorrow for their three day, two night adventure.

Riverside spent the day on section 10 of the French Broad River where they had a great day paddling. Their paddling skills continued to improve as they learned to ferry, hit eddys, and read the river. They didn’t get rained on and are probably enjoying sitting around their camp fire  before retiring to their tents. They will awake early for another day of adventure as they hit another white water river tomorrow!!  Stay tuned!!
