GV Welcomes a New Director!

Greetings from Gwynn Valley!

As the summer approaches, we are very excited to announce a new addition to our Director Team at Gwynn Valley Camp, Annika Carlson!

This summer Annika will be stepping into the role of Assistant Director of Older Programs while also returning as the Head Counselor of Mountainside. Annika joins our team with a varied background of summer camp experience in the role of Operations Director at Triangle Y Camp in North Dakota from 2020-2023. She graduated with a degree in Outdoor Education in 2023 from Black Hills State University. Following her passion of recreation as a field instructor and leader in her community, Annika joined us in the summer of 2023 as a Mountainside Logistician and returned in 2024 as Mountainside Head Counselor. During her time at Gwynn Valley, Annika has led campers on the river and in the Mountainside community. In 2024, Annika moved to Brevard, NC focusing on education enrichment as a Teaching Assistant with Transylvania County Schools. When she’s not playing outside with campers, she enjoys mountain biking in Dupont Forest, hiking in Pisgah Forest, baking the tastiest chocolate chip cookies and playing pickleball with friends. 

Annika’s ability to maintain a positive and productive learning environment for our older campers at Gwynn Valley provides great leadership to our Mountainside, Riverside and Young Leader programs as we strive to nurture future leaders and stewards of the land. 

We are thrilled to have Annika join our year round team right in time for staff training and campers to arrive for a fun summer at Gwynn Valley!
