Goodbye Summer and Hello Registration!
The cabins have been sealed shut, the program areas packed away and a loud silence fills the air at Gwynn Valley; we say our final goodnights to another sensational summer at camp. As the dust of Summer 2024 settles here, I’m left reflecting on warmer and longer days behind me. The sound of children’s laughter and song has been replaced by keyboard clicking and a distant Team Maintenance truck keeping the grounds beautiful. The smells wafting from the Mill fire, the fruitful Kitchen and damp towels on lines have been replaced by the scent of cooler Fall breezes. The sight of the turning Millwheel, archery arrows flying and climbing ropes traversing have stilled. Thank you to the parents and families for entrusting us with your most special gifts this summer and allowing us to guide them, counsel them, encourage them and watch them grow in the natural world. Thank you to the wonderful campers for making this summer exuberant, joyful, and memorable. We hope in colder Winter months, you’ll be able to reflect on the glimmers of warmer times at camp where adventure awaits. While the memories of summer remain close in all our hearts, we look forward to another exciting summer at Gwynn Valley next year; our 90th summer in fact!
At Gwynn Valley, this place is a home away from home for children in the summer. A place where formative experiences, growth zones and challenges by choice highlight a camper’s time outdoors. Camp is just a piece of those developmental skills and personal growth that children experience through forming their identity and learning crucial lessons from many different teachers. We are so glad to be a part of their learning and growing! I hope as campers enter a new school year, they allow moments of summer to be woven into their world; proud moments of accomplishments, playing and adventure in the great outdoors, and bunkmates turned into friendships via post and phone. Wishing all our campers, families and friends a prosperous and healthy Fall! Thank you to the hard working people who cultivated simple joys and safety for campers, Counselors, Program Leaders, Kitchen staff, Housekeeping staff, Team Maintenance, Interns, SITs and all who have a hand in creating summer wonder.
