Checking in from C Session!
We were elated to welcome our C2 campers this week as the fun of C Session continues! The fun kicked off with some cabin campfires and an epic scavenger hunt. It’s safe to say the day was soundtracked with laughter and laced with both new and cherished friendships.
We greeted the next day with vibrant music, dancing, and face paint for Mexico Day! Our kitchen crew worked hard to prepare an authentic Mexican menu, featuring Chiliaquiles Verdes for breakfast, Pozole for lunch, and Tacos Arabe de Puebla for dinner. On top of the delicious meals, campers learned new traditional dances and games during our Evening Campfire.
Beyond our International Day celebrations, Main Camp had their first A and B day discoveries. These are their morning activities that they’ll do recurringly throughout the week. To keep things fresh and allow for folks to try out as many activities as possible, we always have a rotating offering of afternoon sign-ups. There is always something new to try here!
Over on Mountainside, our adventurous campers took off into the wilderness to spend their time Backpacking, Mountain Biking, Climbing, or Canoeing. In preparation, they spent this past week going on offsite training days. Our
Mountainsiders have also had the opportunity to spend some quality time chilling at the Lake, playing big games (a la Secret Agent), doing some afternoon sign-ups of their own, and spent an evening picnicking on the Hunt Farm property across the road.
Our Riversiders are no stranger to the preparation our Mountainsiders have started to take on. They took off for their third, and final, adventure today in backpacking! We can’t wait to hear their stories upon their final return.
It was pure magic to experience every program in the same room (The Lodge, of course) together for our Farm Campfire. Surrounded by hay and hand-plucked bouquets, Dale shared stories and displayed classic clog dancing. He even wow-ed the room with a magic show that would have given long time alumni (and Tajar Tales author) RB a run for his money. The night ended with a sweet treat of carrot cake made with carrots grown and harvested at the farm. We also got to meet some of our brand new piglets! 16 of whom in total we welcomed to GV on July 6th.
The next night, our Young Leaders organized a very out-of-this-world themed game for our C2 cabins on Main Camp. It’s in the name, but they truly are the leaders our community needs and cherishes.
If you couldn’t guess already, the fun never ceases here at Gwynn Valley. Campers had a Special Day today filled with pirates, rainbows, and treasure from the big blue “C.”
Above all, amongst the themed activities, piglets, and wild excursions, we remain grounded in the simple joys of friendship and gratitude.
