Season’s Best and Happy New Year!

It’s just a few days before our Holiday weekend here at camp.  The grass is the field looking out from my office is showing again after almost of week of being covered with snow.  It’s been very cold at camp and snow still lingers on all the north slopes that don’t get sunlight.  More snow is forecast just after the 25th and we’ll see if the weatherman holds true.

Just after the new year we’ll begin our home show schedule again and hope to see many of you at a camp showing in your area.  We have new video footage from last summer so come join us and bring a friend.  Cate, in our office, has begun to prepare cabin photos  to be mailed out just after January.  You can still go online and view all the photos that were taken this summer.  There’s a good chance you will find yourself in those.  You should be receiving our holiday newsletter in the next few days.

Even though camp is vacant work continues each day as we look forward to the simple joys of summer.   Team Maintenance is finishing up the new dock at the waterfront after having rebuilt the drain at the bottom of the lake.  Don’t worry, we drained the lake and they didn’t have to do the work underwater.  That’s not to say they couldn’t.  Dale, Doug and Jeff can do about anything they set their mind to.  Attached to the drain will be a small turbine that will generate power.  Dale is working out where to direct that energy.  Besides water power, he and his crew just erected a windmill at the farm that will pump water to the animals and to the garden when needed.  The windmill is one that was resurrected from an old farm in Texas and Dale rebuilt it to full operation.  Just over a week ago it began to turn for the first time in about 80 years.  Right now it is decorated with lights for the holidays and will be fully operational this summer when campers arrive.   We’re also putting the finishing touches on our new mountain bike trail at the Hunt Farm.  It’s over a mile of single track with some challenging riding on a beautiful piece of property.

There’s always something new at camp whether it’s renovated buildings, new activities or just new born animals at the farm.  Come celebrate the Simple Joys of childhood with us this summer.  Speaking of celebration, here’s wishing you all the best for the holidays and a happy  new year from all of us at Gwynn Valley.
