Dear Parents & Friends of C-1 Campers,
Thank you for a great ending to our C-1 Session today! We’ve had a wonderful time for the last 10-days getting to know your children. For those of you that have arrived home already, we hope that your child’s experience included all the magic of camp including new friends, new experiences, time outside, and lots and lots of celebrations of the simple joys of childhood. We know you will hear stories and songs as the weeks go by, and that over time the camp experience will become a great memory. Here are a few photos from the last 10 days to help remind your campers of all they did here: https://vimeo.com/347203987/08c75f4b24
From all of us, thanks again for sharing your children with us for these 10 days! Soon you will receive a link to an evaluation that we are hoping you will participate in. We appreciate you taking the time to help us keep Gwynn Valley an outstanding program.
C Session, MS2, RS2 and YL2 march on!
After saying goodbye to our C1 campers, our numbers are much smaller in Main Camp. It’s a special day for those C session campers because programs run as normal with lots and lots of activity options for half of the normal campers in camp. This afternoon we had 17 activity choices for 9 cabins of campers and everyone got to do their favorite things!
Our Mountainside crew had their first training day, which meant that the five Adventure groups each spent the day training in the area of their chosen adventure. Paddlers spent time on the lake and then headed to section zero of the French Broad. Climbers went to Looking Glass to scale the granite walls of friction and eyebrows there. Hikers/backpackers went to Panthertown for hikes and swims amongst the waterfalls. Bikers stayed on the property to refine their two-wheel skills and to prepare for Dupont where their adventure will take place. Earth Skills also stayed on property at Fox Den, where they played games and worked on various skills to help them achieve greater awareness of the natural world around them.
Riverside is still out there paddling today and will be out one more day before they make the trek home. This group has done really well in progressing through the various river levels and will be taking on the Mighty Nantahala River tomorrow before coming back to camp. Although there is something to be learned each time you run the same river, campers love the feeling of ‘progression’ and moving on from one river to the next. Over the last several days they’ve taken on the French Broad, the Green, the Tuckaseegee and tomorrow the Nantahala river! We can’t wait to welcome Riverside back into camp tomorrow morning and hear about their adventures out in the field.
For all those campers and staff still at Gwynn Valley this evening, we broke from our normal routine and snuggled down to watch a movie together in the lodge. As you know, we are normally a technology free camp, but there’s something so cozy and restorative about watching a great movie together! This has been a tradition for us for a while, and a wonderful way to make this C1/C2 changeover time every more special for our C session campers.
Tomorrow new campers arrive for C2 session and we welcome them to our wonderful little community. We can hardly wait to meet them! Stay tuned!
